When it comes to achieving a lifting effect, anatomical implants tend to provide better results than round ones. These implants not only add volume but also help tighten the skin. So, with this option, you can enjoy both enlargement and lifting with minimal scarring.

If you’re dealing with moderate to severe sagging, there are two main techniques for a breast lift that you can consider.

The first technique is ideal for moderate sagging. In this approach, I carefully remove the excess skin around the areola in a circular pattern. Once I take away the skin from the lower part, the breast tissue becomes more visible. By gathering the lower section of the breast tissue, we create a lifting effect. Finally, I stitch the skin edges around the areola, which results in a scar that only goes around the areola.

The second method involves removing excess skin both around the areola and vertically down to the submammary fold. After that, I gather the lower part of the breast tissue as well. Once everything is in place, I stitch the skin edges to close the wound. This technique leaves scars both around the areola and vertically from the areola down to the submammary fold.

Sometimes, you might feel like your breasts appear smaller than you’d like, and if that’s the case, adding an implant during the procedure can be a great option to enhance their size.

How is the recovery period after breast lift?

Getting a breast lift means you’ll be under general anesthesia, and the whole procedure typically takes about 2 to 3 hours, depending on the specific shape of your breasts. After the surgery, you should be able to start moving around within 3 to 4 hours.

Even though you’ll be under general anesthesia, I’ll also use a local anesthetic in the surgical area. This long-lasting local anesthetic will help ensure you don’t feel any pain on the first day, which is usually when discomfort is most noticeable. It’s normal to experience some mild pain in the days that follow, but don’t worry—pain medication will help keep you comfortable. You can expect to head home from the hospital the very next day.

You might notice some swelling and occasional bruising, but don’t fret; these will fade away in about 10 days.

A couple of days after your surgery, you’ll be able to take a shower.

I always use absorbable and hidden stitches, so you won’t have to worry about the stress of stitch removal.

During your recovery, you’ll be able to move around without being stuck in bed, and any discomfort should be minimal. Many of my patients are eager to know when they can get back to their daily routines. You don’t need to ask me—just pay attention to your body. It will let you know when it’s ready to take on more or when it’s time to slow down.

You can return to work and even take a flight just a few days after your breast lift.

Swimming is also on the table after two weeks, which gives your wounds enough time to heal.

In about six months, your breasts will settle into their final shape.

Can you feed your baby after breast lift surgery?

But life can be unpredictable, and you might find yourself expecting down the line. The good news is that the impact on your mammary glands is usually minimal, so most women can still breastfeed after having a baby. Even those with silicone implants can successfully nurse. The only thing to keep in mind is that there’s a chance your breasts might change shape again after pregnancy.

What are the risks and complications of breast lift?
