Since the area beneath the chin is small, local anesthesia is usually enough to keep you comfortable—there’s no need for general anesthesia. The procedure itself takes about 30 minutes, and you can head home about an hour after resting. You’ll need to wear a special compression garment for a week afterward. It’s normal to experience a bit of swelling and bruising, but don’t worry; those should clear up within a week.
• In more severe cases, you might also notice excess skin and muscle looseness. If your skin and muscles are still tight, the choice between liposuction and en-block fat removal will depend on how thick the fat layer is.

Sometimes, as fat accumulates, you may also experience some loosening of the skin and muscles. In these situations, additional skin and muscle tightening procedures may be necessary.

Typically, I make a small cut about 3 cm long just behind the jawline to insert the necessary instruments. After that, I bring the left and right edges of the muscle together at the midline and stitch them up. This helps to tighten the muscles and gives a sharper angle between the jaw and neck.

If there are any fat deposits, I usually take care of those at the same time.

The whole procedure takes around 30 to 40 minutes, and you can head home after resting for about an hour. The recovery time is pretty similar to that of a liposuction procedure.

All the surgical techniques I talked about for double chin removal are generally quite safe. While there are some risks, like hematoma (which is basically blood pooling inside the wound) and infections, these can usually be avoided with careful surgical practices and the use of antibiotics.

There’s a very small chance (about 0.2%) of temporary nerve dysfunction occurring during liposuction, but if it does happen, it typically resolves itself within a few weeks.

Hematoma isn’t something we usually expect with liposuction, and it’s quite rare after a neck lift. If it does occur, the solution is to aspirate the pooled blood. By ensuring thorough bleeding control during the procedure, we can prevent blood from collecting in the wound.

You might notice some changes in sensation around the surgical area, but don’t worry—this isn’t a real complication and usually goes away on its own within 3 to 4 weeks.
