Dr. Nazmi Baycin, DHA-licensed board-certified plastic surgeon in Dubai

Breast augmentation in Saudi Arabia is not hard to find. It is performed in private practice in every major city, by board-certified surgeons, many of them trained in Saudi, Canadian or French programs. So when a patient tells me she is flying from Riyadh or Jeddah to Dubai for the operation, the interesting question is never whether she could have had it at home. She could. The question is what she is choosing by traveling — and in most cases the answer is a specific incision, a particular standard of operating room discipline, and privacy.

Key takeaways: what the Saudi data actually shows

  • Breast augmentation is widely available in Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar, so travel is about technique, not access.
  • Scarless means transaxillary: the scar sits in the armpit crease, and none is placed on the breast.
  • Options are silicone, saline, fat transfer, or an implant plus fat, and fat alone gives a smaller gain.
  • A 2023 survey of 52 Saudi plastic surgeons found antibiotics and skin prep universal, everything else variable.
  • Insertion funnel 65.4%, nipple shield 51.9%, and 51.9% did not restrict operating room door movement.
  • That survey measured what surgeons report, not infection rates, so it describes practice and not outcomes.
  • Ask about case volume and antiseptic protocol wherever you operate, because both vary more than technique does.

Breast augmentation possibilities in Saudi Arabia

Breast augmentation, properly called augmentation mammoplasty, increases the volume of the breast and, done well, improves its shape and proportion at the same time. The word mammoplasty on its own covers reduction as well, so the qualifier matters when you are reading a consent form.

In Saudi Arabia the operation sits almost entirely in the private sector, and interest in it has clearly grown. I would rather not put a growth figure on that, because no reliable national registry publishes one — what does exist is a picture of who performs it. A 2023 survey of board-certified Saudi plastic surgeons found that 76.9% of respondents perform both cosmetic augmentation and implant-based reconstruction, and that 61.5% carry out between 10 and 50 augmentations a year, with 21.2% doing more than 50. That is a working national capability, not a novelty.

Surgical breast augmentation options in Saudi Arabia

Breast augmentation in Saudi Arabia is available in all the forms it takes internationally. The three routes to added volume are these:

  1. Breast implants. The most common approach by a wide margin. Silicone implants are generally described as feeling closer to natural breast tissue; saline implants are usually the less costly option and can be filled through a smaller incision. Which suits you depends far more on your chest measurements and the amount of tissue available to cover an implant than on preference alone.
  2. Fat transfer. Fat is harvested by liposuction from the abdomen or thighs, purified, and injected into the breast. It avoids an implant entirely, but the gain in volume is modest, and part of the graft is reabsorbed, so more than one session is often needed.
  3. Implant plus fat. A hybrid, using a small amount of grafted fat to soften the upper border of an implant in a woman with thin cover. It refines the result rather than adding much size.

The decision patients underestimate: where the incision goes

Most consultations focus on volume. The choice that actually determines whether the result reads as surgery is where the implant enters. There are three routes in common use: the fold beneath the breast, the lower border of the areola, and the armpit. All three place the same implant in the same pocket. They differ only in where the mark is left, and in how much the surgeon can see while making the pocket. The breast augmentation page covers the technical comparison in full; the armpit route is discussed further down this page, because it is the reason most Saudi patients come to Dubai.

What the local literature does document: keeping the implant clean

There is very little published on breast augmentation in Saudi Arabia specifically, but there is one paper worth reading before you choose an operating room. A 2023 cross-sectional survey of 52 board-certified plastic surgeons in Saudi Arabia asked what antiseptic measures they use during implant surgery. Every respondent reported preoperative antibiotics and skin disinfection. Beyond that, practice diverged: implant irrigation 92.3%, glove change during the procedure 96.2%, pocket irrigation 86.5%, an insertion sleeve or funnel 65.4%, and a nipple shield 51.9%. More than half, 51.9%, did not minimize movement through the operating room door.

Two things about that paper. The first is that it is genuinely useful, because these measures are the difference between one operating room and another far more than technique is, and infection is what drives capsular contracture. The second is that it does not show what many would like it to show. It is a survey of what 52 surgeons say they do, achieved through a WhatsApp broadcast with a 69.33% response rate, and the authors are explicit that they did not measure infection or complication rates at all. It describes practice, not outcomes, and the journal grades it Level of Evidence 5. Read it as a checklist of questions to ask, which is how I use it.

Top breast augmentation surgeons and clinics in Saudi Arabia

No honest article can rank surgeons for you. What it can do is tell you which questions separate them, and the survey above supplies most of them.

Ask how many augmentations the surgeon performs a year. In the Saudi sample, 61.5% did between 10 and 50 and 21.2% did more than 50, so a figure below ten a year is worth noticing. Ask whether they hold an aesthetic fellowship — 42.3% of respondents did, which means the majority did not. Ask which of the antiseptic measures listed above are used in their operating room, and why the ones they omit are omitted. Ask to see healed results at one year rather than at six weeks, when everything looks good. And ask what happens, clinically and financially, if you need a revision.

Procedures such as breast lifting are also widely offered, and are a different operation with a different scar pattern — a lift repositions tissue rather than adding volume, and some patients need both. A surgeon who tells you at consultation that you need a lift rather than the augmentation you asked for is usually telling you something useful.

Breast augmentation in Riyadh

Riyadh holds the largest concentration of plastic surgeons in the country: 51.9% of the surgeons in the 2023 survey practiced in the central region. For a patient that mostly means choice — more surgeons to compare, more facilities, and more second opinions available without traveling. The same study reported that region of practice was statistically associated with several antiseptic habits, including insertion funnel use and door movement control, though it analyzed region as a categorical variable and does not establish which way the difference runs. The practical reading is not that one city is safer, but that protocols are not standardized nationally, so they are worth asking about individually.

Breast augmentation in Jeddah

Jeddah is the second center by some distance, with 36.5% of surveyed surgeons practicing in the western region. Choice is broad, and the city draws patients from across the west of the Kingdom. The considerations are the same as in Riyadh: verify board certification, ask about annual volume, and ask specifically about the antiseptic protocol, since the survey shows those measures are where practice varies most.

Breast augmentation in Khobar

Khobar and the wider Eastern Province are the thinnest market of the three: only 11.5% of the surveyed surgeons practiced in the east. That does not mean the standard is lower — it means the pool to choose from is smaller, and a patient who wants a specific technique or a second opinion may have to travel regardless. For patients in the Eastern Province, Dubai is a short flight, which is part of why the region is well represented among the Saudi patients I see.

Breast augmentation prices in Saudi Arabia

The cost of breast augmentation in Saudi Arabia varies widely, and there is no reliable published average for the Kingdom. Figures circulating online are marketing rather than data, which is why none appear here.

What actually drives the number is straightforward: which implant is used and whether it carries a manufacturer warranty, whether a lift or fat grafting is combined with the augmentation, the type of anesthesia, the grade of the facility, and the experience of the surgeon. Riyadh sits at the higher end because the best-known practices are concentrated there; Jeddah offers a wider spread. Neither fact tells you anything about quality.

The price of breast augmentation in Saudi Arabia should be quoted as a written package and read as one. Check that it names the implant brand and its warranty terms, the surgeon fee, the anesthetist, the facility charge, pre-operative consultations and investigations, garments and medication, and every scheduled follow-up. Then ask the question most patients forget: what a revision would cost, and under what circumstances it would be covered. A quote materially below the local band has usually had something removed from it rather than delivered more efficiently.

Cultural considerations

Cosmetic surgery is discussed more openly in Saudi Arabia than it was a decade ago, particularly in the cities, and many women describe the decision in terms of confidence rather than concealment. That shift is real. It is also uneven, and it does not follow that every woman wants her surgery known about. Discretion remains a legitimate reason to travel, and it is not the same thing as shame — it is a preference about who gets to know, which is a patient’s to make.

Why do women seeking breast augmentation in Saudi Arabia travel to Dubai for Dr. Nazmi Baycin?

Given that the operation is available at home, the reasons patients give Dr. Nazmi Baycin, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Dubai, fall into three groups: the technique, the operating environment, and privacy. The first is the one they raise unprompted.

The appeal of scarless breast augmentation surgery

The usual routes into the breast leave their mark on the breast: an incision around the areola, or one in the crease underneath it. Both heal well in most patients. Both are, however, on the organ the patient is having operated on, and for a great many women that is the objection.

The transaxillary approach places the implant through a small incision inside a natural crease of the armpit, and creates the pocket from there. Nothing is cut on the breast at all. I want to be exact about the language, because the marketing around it is not: scarless does not mean there is no scar. There is one. It sits in the armpit, it is short, and once mature it is usually difficult to find. What the technique removes is any scar on the breast itself.

It is not the right answer for everyone. The pocket is made at a distance from the incision, which demands a particular discipline, and a revision later is usually easier through a different route. Those trade-offs, and who the approach suits, are set out on my scarless breast augmentation in Dubai page. These are two of my own patients, one year after surgery.

Why is Dr. Nazmi Baycin a preferred choice?

A patient flying in for an operation is buying a judgment she cannot inspect beforehand. The only fair substitute is credentials she can verify and a method described plainly enough to question. Both are below.

  • Board-certified plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon, trained in Turkey and practicing in Dubai since 2016.
  • Dubai Health Authority license number 00198035, checkable on the DHA register before you book anything.
  • International member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and a member of ISAPS.
  • Procedures performed in hospitals accredited by Joint Commission International, not in an office-based theater.
  • Transaxillary scarless augmentation is one of three techniques he identifies as signatures of the practice, alongside individually designed labiaplasty and 3D customized facial bone implants.
  • Published in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and an invited congress lecturer since 2002.

The operating environment

The Saudi survey makes the point better than I could: the measures that keep an implant free of bacterial contamination are applied inconsistently, and they are invisible to the patient. Operating inside a JCI-accredited hospital means those measures are audited by somebody other than the surgeon who benefits from them. That is the whole argument for accreditation, and it is worth more than any description of equipment.

Privacy and discretion

The third reason is the simplest. A consultation in another country is not overheard. A short flight is an ordinary trip that needs no explanation, and a recovery week in Dubai attracts no attention. The logistics of that — the follow-up pathway once you are home, the doctor who should be lined up locally before you travel, and the timing of the return flight — are covered separately in my guide to what to arrange before flying to Dubai for surgery. What matters is that discretion is arranged in advance rather than improvised, which is a question worth asking any clinic before you commit.

FAQs about breast augmentation for patients traveling from Saudi Arabia to Dubai

  1. Why do women seeking breast augmentation in Saudi Arabia travel to Dubai?

Breast augmentation is widely available in Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar, so travel is rarely about access. Patients who come to Dubai are usually choosing a specific technique, the scarless transaxillary approach that places the implant through the armpit and leaves no incision on the breast, together with privacy, hospitals accredited by Joint Commission International, and the freedom to select the surgeon rather than accept whoever is available locally.

  2. What is scarless breast augmentation, and how does it differ from traditional methods?

Traditional breast augmentation places the implant through an incision around the areola or in the fold beneath the breast, and that incision leaves a mark on the breast itself. The transaxillary approach places the implant through a small incision hidden in a natural crease of the armpit and builds the pocket from there, so the breast is left unmarked. The term scarless describes where the scar sits rather than the absence of one.

  3. Is there really no scar at all?

No, and any surgeon who tells you otherwise is selling rather than explaining. There is a scar. It is short, it lies inside a natural crease of the armpit, and once mature it is usually difficult to find. What the technique avoids is a scar on the breast, which is the part most patients care about.

  4. Is breast augmentation available in Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar?

Yes, in all three and in private practice across the Kingdom. In the 2023 survey of board-certified Saudi plastic surgeons, 51.9% practiced in the central region around Riyadh, 36.5% in the western region including Jeddah, and 11.5% in the east including Khobar. So the operation is available everywhere, but the number of surgeons to choose between is widest in Riyadh and narrowest in the Eastern Province.

  5. Silicone, saline or fat transfer?

Silicone implants are generally described as feeling closer to breast tissue. Saline implants are usually less costly and can be placed through a smaller incision. Fat transfer avoids an implant altogether but gives a smaller gain in volume, and part of the graft is reabsorbed, so more than one session is often needed. Some patients combine an implant with a little fat to soften its upper border. The right answer follows from your chest measurements and the tissue available to cover an implant, which is a conversation rather than a catalogue choice.

  6. What should I ask a surgeon about infection prevention?

Ask which antiseptic steps are used, and why any are left out. The 2023 Saudi survey found preoperative antibiotics and skin disinfection universal among the 52 surgeons who responded, but implant irrigation at 92.3%, pocket irrigation at 86.5%, an insertion funnel at 65.4% and a nipple shield at 51.9%, while more than half did not restrict movement through the operating room door. Those steps vary between surgeons far more than the operation itself does, and infection is what drives capsular contracture.

  7. How much does breast augmentation cost in Saudi Arabia?

There is no reliable published average, and the figures circulating online are marketing rather than data. Cost is driven by the implant and its warranty, whether a lift or fat grafting is combined with it, the anesthesia, the grade of facility and the experience of the surgeon. Ask for the quote in writing, check that it names every one of those items plus all follow-up visits, and ask separately what a revision would cost and when it would be covered.

  8. Which credentials does Dr. Nazmi Baycin hold in breast surgery?

He is a board-certified plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon, licensed by the Dubai Health Authority under number 00198035, and an international member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He operates within hospitals accredited by Joint Commission International. Transaxillary scarless augmentation is one of the three techniques he identifies as signatures of his practice.

    About Dr. Nazmi Baycin

Surgery, to me, is precision applied in service of restoration — a conviction that has guided every one of the more than 7,000 procedures I have performed over 25 years in practice. I am a DHA-licensed, board-certified plastic surgeon, trained in Turkey and based in Dubai since 2016. I operate exclusively within JCI-accredited hospitals, and hold international membership in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Three techniques, in particular, have become signatures of my practice. Scarless breast augmentation, performed through a transaxillary approach that leaves no incision on the breast itself. Labiaplasty designed individually around each patient's own anatomy, never to a standard template. And 3D customised facial bone implants, engineered through CT-based bespoke printing — a technique I currently offer as the only surgeon in Dubai providing it. My practice today spans facial rejuvenation, breast surgery, body contouring, and cosmetic genital procedures, drawing patients from across the UAE, Europe, and the wider GCC. Yet the principle guiding each of these specialties has never changed: to restore form is to restore function. Read Dr. Baycin's full profile
